(Pictured) Altrusa International Foundation in Hot Springs Village, Inc. awards scholarships of $500 to seniors at four area high schools who achieve a 4.0 GPA from freshman through senior year. Each year, the scholarships are awarded at a luncheon at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Altrusa estimates that 18 students will qualify this school year. Altrusa Foundation was awarded $1,000 for this purpose by the Operation Round-Up board of trustees. This photo of last year’s recipients was provided by Altrusa International Foundation in Hot Springs Village, Inc.

Thanks to members who participate in Operation Round-Up, $24,500 was donated to 17 local organizations in December.

These members volunteer to have their bill rounded up to the next even dollar amount each month. That money — an average of $6 a year — is used for donations to local organizations and for college scholarships. To date, Operation Round-Up has donated more than $1.47 million.

The Operation Round-Up Trust fund is overseen by a nine-member board of community members, who are selected to serve by First Electric’s board of di-rectors. The trustees meet quarterly to review donation applications and select the recipients.
