From Your Board Chairman: October is National Co-op Month

Posted on September 28th, 2020

From Your Board Chairman, Rick Love

This month we celebrate you – our members! October is National Co-op month. You are the foundation for which we were built and still serve today.

“The greatest thing on earth is to have the love of God in your heart, and the next greatest thing is to have electricity in your house, said a farmer giving witness in a rural Tennessee church in the early 1940s.” The book The Next Greatest Thing, by Richard Pence, captures the greatest social and economic advancement of the 20th century – electrification.

The words on the pages speak to me even louder as we enter a new era at First Electric. The demand for high-speed internet is overwhelming – much like the demand for electricity in the late 1930s. It was not uncommon for investor-owned electric companies to “skim the cream” by hooking up the most densely populated areas and pass over the sparsely populated rural communities.

Today, the same holds true, reliable high-speed internet connection for homes, schools, businesses and family is almost impossible to find in rural areas. It is no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s world.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am excited to announce Connect 2 First Internet brought to you by First Electric. Our goal is to provide high-speed internet to all our members. It is essential for our communities to connect for education, business, careers, health, wellness and entertainment.

I know this announcement will generate excitement and questions, but we ask for your patience. We are in the early stages of planning, with limited details to share. When they are available, we will share them in Arkansas Living.

In the future, we will deliver more than power to your home – a connection to empower your life. Thank you for your membership in First Electric!
