The More Things Change, the More Things Stay the Same

The More Things Change, the More Things Stay the Same

Posted on March 29th, 2022

The more things change, the more things stay the same. Hence the cooperative’s annual meeting and director elections. Many years ago, when our membership was smaller and our service area was more condensed, we would host annual meetings. This was a time to congregate and enjoy time with cooperative family and friends. Home economists were on hand to demonstrate electric appliances and their uses in our homes; electric stoves, washers, dryers and irons were popular due to the electrification efforts of the co-op.

A board was organized to govern the co-op – and the annual meetings were utilized to meet and vote on directors. Bear in mind, we didn’t have the luxury of a magazine, website, printed material or reliable mail service for rural areas to introduce and elect directors. This proved to be the easiest way to vote and was the avenue used for many years.

But remember... the more things change the more things stay the same! Today, we still host an annual meeting and vote on directors. It’s just done more conveniently for you – our members. In fact, I think we do it better!

Instead of home economists talking about appliances, we are talking about EV chargers and solar. We’re meeting our members where they want – social media, emails and phone. We’ll even come to your house to check your home’s efficiency! Ballots are mailed to voters, and the annual meeting attendance is optional because of all the ways you can communicate daily. However, if you want to talk face-to-face, we have local offices in each district open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We’re proud of the fact we’re accessible 24/7 to work an outage or answer a message. It’s how we do business.

In 2021, we had over 1.2 million contacts with our members through mail, social media and email. Some of the surveys asked you to respond about the service you received at the co-op. The results showed that, when interacting with office or field staff, you were overwhelmingly pleased – scoring 95% on professionalism of the representative.

The annual meeting and director election are approaching; watch for materials coming your way!

Sincerely,
Rick Love
