HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS, Apply for the trip of a lifetime!

First Electric will select exceptional high school juniors to attend Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid educational trip to Washington, D.C., from June 17-23. Applications are now
open to any junior enrolled at a local high school or homeschool whose parents or guardians are members of First Electric. Winners will be selected based on information supplied on the applications and personal interviews. Applications must be turned in by April 1.

Arkansas’ electric cooperatives have sponsored Youth Tour since 1990. Each year, approximately 40 students are selected by the state’s electric distribution cooperatives to participate. During this trip of a lifetime, students will visit historic sites, such as Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Institution, Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the U.S. Capitol. Youth Tour delegates will also visit with members of the Arkansas congressional delegation.

COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place. Youth Tour will follow pandemic travel guidelines set by the airlines, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

Scholarship applications due May 2

High school seniors have until May 2 to apply for a First Electric Cooperative scholarship, which is funded through the Operation Round-Up program. This year, nine $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors living within the coop’s five districts.

Students may visit their counselors or a First Electric office for an application or download from the co-op’s website at www.firstelectric.coop/scholarships.

To be eligible, applicants must be a high school senior whose parents or guardians are First Electric members. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average through their senior year of high school and upon graduation, attend an accredited institute of higher learning in Arkansas on a full-time basis.

Help fund future scholarships and donations to local nonprofits, by enrolling in Operation Round-Up and having your bill rounded up to the next even dollar. An average donation is just $6 per year.
