Estimate Your Home’s Energy Efficiency
Posted on December 28th, 2018
To estimate your home’s energy efficiency, take your average electric bill and divide it by the square feet of your home. For example, a 1,800-square-foot home with a $260 average electric bill would cost $0.14 per square foot. This home would benefit from energy efficiency improvements. If your cost per square foot is 13 cents or more, it needs energy efficient improvements. If your cost per square foot is nine cents to 12 cents, it could use some energy efficiency improvements. If you cost per square foot is eight cents or less, your home is energy efficient.
Please note: This calculation is based on an all-electric home without a pool or hot tub.
