Energy Audits - Diagnostic & Walk Through
Hard to believe, but it's true. Those small air leaks in your home can add up to big electric bills during the summer and winter months. That's why First Electric offers its members home energy audits to assist in keeping your electric bills down and your home energy efficient all year round.
First Electric Cooperative offers two types of energy audits; a free walk-through energy audit, or a fee based diagnostic energy audit.
The free walk-through energy audit involves our trained employees inspecting your home and evaluating the energy efficiency of the building, household appliances, your heating and cooling system, and lighting. You'll be given a detailed list of recommendations showing you what steps can be taken to reduce your energy costs. The written review provides you with a variety of energy savings options. You can use these recommendations to choose an option that best suits your needs.
The diagnostic energy audit utilizes a blower door test and infrared camera. These tools allow First Electric's trained energy auditor to accurately identify thermal deficiencies that cause high energy consumption and an uncomfortable home. A detailed report will be provided which will include; a heating and cooling system load calculation, the measured air tightness of the home and duct system, infrared camera results and specific recommendations for improvements that will reduce your energy usage. There is a $100 fee for this audit, however, the fee will be reimbursed if recommended repairs are made within six months of the audit.
Visit our Virtual House Tour, which will take you through each room in a typical home, providing tips along the way on simple ways to save energy. For example, a stop in the virtual home's bedroom advises users to keep vents clear and clean, use Energy Star appliances, turn off lights when possible and use compact fluorescent light bulbs. The virtual home's living room encourages users to use power strips as a central "turn-off" point for appliances, close drapes in the summer to help keep the house cool, and close the fireplace damper when not in use.
